A Sacred Jewel at Lake Bratan
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, the Floating Temple, is both one of the most photogenic as well as one of the most worshipped temples of Bali. This 17th century Hindu-Buddhists temple is situated in the highlands of Bedugul, right next to Lake Bratan. It is built in a way that it looks like it's floating on water. The shrine is Dewi Danu’s temple's water goddess, a devotion added by farmers and it serves as a landmark for the agricultural and religious history of Bali.
Cool and Serene Scenery
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is surrounded by mists of mountains, giving life to its lush green scenery which makes the location heavenly at any point in the day. While the temple is covered in clouds as it rises over the sun, the calmness and spirituality surrounding the area is on another level. The temple’s ethereal beauty reaches new heights as the sun’s reflections off the temple gradually transform into the calm lake.
Historical and culturist Essence
Visiting the site will be assumed as a scenic paradise to anybody but in reality, it has proven cultural and traditional relevance to the locals of Bali.
As a centrepiece, the temple features a few shrines of various Hindu and Buddhist deities, demonstrating the fusion of the two religions. In the case of farmers or locals, the temple serves as a blessing for their rich killings and overall wealth, supporting the temple’s function in Bali’s traditional Subak irrigation system.
Activities and Nearby Attractions
The visitors of Pura Bratan can walk around the temple area, observe the detailed carvings, and gather information on the customs of Balinese religion. Added to this are boat trips across Lake Bratan where one can capture great shots of the temple as well along with previously mentioned Pura Bratan. Moreover, the nearby Bali Botanical Garden and other cultural places such as Handara Gate make Bedugul a prominent sight to behold in Bali.
Best Time to Visit and Travel Tips
Recommended time to visit Pura Ulun Danu Bratan would be the early mornings as it is less crowded and lighting for photos is brilliant too. Being at the mid-range area of Mount Bratan, Bedugul feels much cooler and gives a nice break from the warmer weather in the coast, hence travellers are advised to take along a light sweater. For a more profound experience and understanding of the temple’s beauty and significance, it will certainly help the adventurer to hire a local guide who knows the history and belief of the shrine.
