1. Sate Lilit- The Traditional Balinese Skewers

When in Canggu, ensure you try Sate Lilit. Unlike the rest, This one is unique as it uses chicken or fish fillets mixed with shredded coconut and Balinese spices, then wrapped and grilled on a charcoal stove. You can buy Sate Lilit from the street vendors around Batu Bolong or Berawa during the evenings.

2. Nasi Jinggo - The Most Affordable Meal in Bali

In Bali, most people eat Nasi Jinggo which are rice meals served with sambal, shredded chicken, tempeh and chips, and they are wrapped in a fried banana leaf for easy carrying. Nasi Jinggo can be found sold at roadside stalls, near Canggu night markets as street snacks for locals. In terms of price and convenience, it doesn’t get better than this!

3. Bakso - The Transportable Indonesian Meatball Soup

You can easily spot Bakso carts around Canggu. This is my favourite warm meatball soup served with noodles, tofu, sometimes boiled eggs and seasoned with soy sauce and chilli. You can often hear mobile food vendor “ting-ting” bells ringing all over the street. Many tourists and Indonesian citizens’ love Bakso because of the ease at which it could be grabbed everywhere.

4. Martabak - Sweet and Savoury Pancwan Perfection

It is impossible to turn down either version of Martabak, sweet or savoury. Martabak Manis is thick, sweet, and filled with fluffy chocolate ice cream along with peanuts and cheese while Martabak Telur is also filled with minced meat, eggs and spices between crispy pancake layers. Be on the lookout for Martabak stalls around Echo Beach and the night food places near Jalan Raya Canggu.
